Our client purchased a 1960s detached bungalow in Galleywood, Chelmsford in mid 2018 and approached Studio Forty with the ambition of extending upwards to provide a new first floor and a more traditional living arrangement.
The brief required a first floor extension to include bedrooms with en-suite provision, a family bathroom, a double-height entrance space and a contemporary aesthetic in addition to a full scheme of refurbishment of the existing.
From the outset the ambitious brief would challenge the budget, and so it proved. After initial cost analysis we advised the client that demolition of the existing and construction of a new-build property would prove better value. Subsequently, we achieved a successful planning consent in February 2020 with demolition commencing in June.
