This Victorian, mid-terraced house situated in the Royal Borough of Greenwich was in a state of disrepair when our client purchased it. The property had been used as a student let and was suffering as a result of neglect. The site was tight and made somewhat more complex by the fact of access to the rear garden only being provided via the house itself.
The brief was to provide a new rear, double-height extension and whole house refurbishment. The client was keen to see open plan living to the ground floor and required an additional bedroom and shower room to the first floor, to allow for their young family to grow.
Initial assessment of an existing, single-storey, half-width extension housing a galley kitchen and bathroom, revealed that the form would have to be demolished. So a new double-height mass, similar in size to the existing extension footprint was proposed, in addition to an infill extension.
