We’re excited to share our submission for the Laindon Voices Commission, a project that aims to celebrate community creativity and leave a lasting legacy of public art in Laindon.

Why Laindon?

Laindon is a place shaped by daily journeys — people walking to the station, to shops, through cut-throughs and underpasses. These routes are familiar, but often overlooked. The Laindon Voices brief asked for a project that brings life near the station and creates a trail that will stay with the community.

Our proposal responds with a simple idea: everyday journeys can become colourful, meaningful, and proud.

The Laindon Colour Trail

The Way We Walk is a wayfinding route that uses colour, symbols, and stories to guide people through Laindon. It will connect the station, shopping parade, and green spaces with interventions co-created by local residents.

Through playful design, the trail will make moving around Laindon easier, safer, and more enjoyable, while celebrating the identity of the people who live here.

How the Community Will Shape It

Co-creation is at the heart of our proposal. Between November 2025 and February 2026, we’ll deliver a programme of free workshops and events where residents of all ages can take part.

  • Map My Laindon – Residents highlight routes they use, avoid, or value.

  • Colour Walks – Families and children explore Laindon to create a shared colour palette.

  • Icon & Symbol Design – Young people and adults create symbols that represent Laindon.

  • Story Stops – Older residents share memories, which may become plaques, panels, or sound bites.

  • Trail Prototyping Walks – Testing temporary markers together before finalising the route.

  • Celebration Event – A guided walk of the finished Colour Trail, with installations and performances.

Every participant will leave their mark, making the trail truly belong to Laindon.

The Legacy

By February 2026, the Way We Walk will leave a lasting legacy of public art:

  • Painted pathways and murals

  • Colourful signage and icons designed with local people

  • Story plaques and panels celebrating Laindon’s history and memories

This isn’t just a design project. It’s an opportunity to build pride, identity, and connection in Laindon — through the creative voices of the community itself.

👉 We’ll share updates as the process develops. For now, we’re proud to put forward this vision for Laindon, and excited at the possibility of bringing it to life with the people who know it best.
