Architects in Danbury

Design-led residential architecture across Danbury and the surrounding villages.

Studio 40 is a RIBA Chartered architecture practice based in Billericay. We combine architecture, interiors and project management, working with homeowners across Danbury and the surrounding area who want a genuinely considered approach to how they live. Not just a planning application.

Danbury sits at the heart of one of Essex's most distinctive landscapes, surrounded by National Trust woodland, conservation land and a village character that attracts homeowners who care about quality of place. It is exactly the kind of setting where thoughtful architecture matters most, where new interventions need to feel appropriate and well-considered, and where the planning context requires careful handling from the outset.

We have completed projects in the nearby Maldon district, including a considered infill extension in Langford combining walnut joinery, polished concrete and charred timber cladding. It is the kind of project that gives a sense of how we approach design, specification and the level of detail we bring to every scheme. You can see it on our Case Studies page.

Working across Danbury, Great Baddow, Writtle and Maldon means understanding both Chelmsford City Council and Maldon District Council's planning policies, the Green Belt constraints that border much of this area, and the design standards expected in a village and rural setting. We bring that knowledge to every project.

We are honest from the first conversation about what is achievable, what it will cost, and what the planning picture looks like. If you are thinking about extending, refurbishing or rebuilding your home in Danbury, Great Baddow, Writtle, Maldon or the surrounding area, we would like to hear about it.

Our minimum construction value is £200,000. Full details of our fees and how we work are on our Costs page.

We'd love to hear from you.
